For those who wish to do more than just take classes, ZAPP Academy offers several performance companies and a competition team.
Founded in 1989, ZAPP is Eugene's original hip hop company, and our advanced performing company for ages 13 and up. ZAPP is known for its unique style of hip hop, which blends elements of modern, street jazz, character and contemporary. Auditions are held during the first week of class every fall. Please check the News page of our website or keep an eye on our social media accounts for more details.
High Voltage is ZAPP Academy's intermediate company for ages 9-14. The blueprint for High Voltage is simple. Start with a solid foundation of jazz and hip hop technique, then add high energy choreography in a fun atmosphere. If ZAPP is our varsity, then High Voltage is our junior varsity. Auditions are also held in the fall.
The road to becoming a ZAPP company dancer starts here. Short Circuit is ZAPP Academy's beginning company for ages 6-9, and is intended for those younger dancers who are wanting more than one class a week and also have a desire to perform. As with our other companies, auditions are held in the fall and will be announced online and on social media.
When it comes to our advanced competition team (ages 14-18) we're not only looking for skilled dancers, but individuals who have another skill that's just as difficult to acquire; the ability to go all out in competition. Athletes who possess this quality are said to have a "killer instinct". We call them Killa Watts. Our studio has a long history of success in competition, and we're looking for experienced dancers who want to continue this legacy. Auditions are in the fall.
KILLA WATTS II
Our beginning competition team is for those dancers (ages 9-14) who are both dedicated and ready to take the next step in their dance training. Our coaches will foster the dancers' skills, and their competitive spirit. Auditions will be held in the fall.
*COMPANY/COMPETITION TEAM NOTE: Our companies perform an average of 10 times per year with extra rehearsals prior to performances. Competition team schedules vary.
